On April 27th, 2014, there was a MS walk at 136 Oak Ridge Road, Clark, NJ. The site opened at 9:00AM; the opening ceremony began at 10:00AM, the route length was three miles.
Many participants walking have made up a team. Walk MS connects people living with MS and those who care about them. It is an experience unlike any other – a day to come together, to celebrate the progress everyone made to show the power of connections. When participating in the walks you are showing that you are giving respect to those people are diagnosed.
MS stands for Multiple Sclerosis; MS is an inflammatory disease in which the insulating covering of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged. This damage disrupts the ability of parts of the nervous system to communicate, which results in a wide range of signs and symptoms. Some signs and symptoms are physical, mental, and sometimes psychiatric problems. According to the National MS society the most common symptoms are fatigue, numbness or tingling, vision problems, bladder problems, bowel problems, cognitive changes, depression, walking (gait) difficulties, spasticity, dizziness and vertigo, pain, and emotional changes.
The walk started at 10:00 AM. When one gets there if they pre-registered they would hand in their envelope with all donations. Then the group takes a picture with their team. Everyone gets a team picture sent to their house. before the walk everyone just hangs out with there team and just have fun and get ready to walk.
Alex Gall a junior at Colonia High, attended his first MS walk. He stated, “I had so much fun to be walking with friends and family and to help a good cause.”
There was $97,957 raised during the MS walks this years walk at Clark, NJ. Not only can you make a donation at a walk you can also send donations to http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Chapters/NJM/Donate.
Before the walk begins they had a table set up with different kinds of snacks. They had water, juice, apples, bananas, fruit snacks, granola bars, and cough drops. After the walk, there was Toufayan bakeries who sponsored the walk and had lunch provided for everyone. Assorted cutlet wraps were provided.
